Today exactly one year ago the first version of ‘zum
Damenhaus’ got released. Much has been changed, but there is still a lot to do!
I want to use this chance to talk about why I chose
to make this game and I hope I can inspire some people to start their own
projects.
Lay your head into your hand, smile and listen,
because this is the story about some random guy creating a porn game:
I used to write a book back in the day, a fantasy
novel. I was done with about 70% of it. But I knew getting money from it would
take a while, since searching for a publisher would be hard, printing and bring
it to the market would also be a long time span. I had one job, my current main
job, but it wasn’t quite enough to keep me living.
Like maybe a lot of you I enjoyed playing ‘Breeding
Season’. Doing a flash game of my own was just a funny idea back then. I’d
rather use the time to write on my book. However, I found out that no matter
how much time I could have spent to write, I don’t actually use it to do more
for my book.
I needed another
hobby.
Doing my own flash game was very tempting. I saw
videos on YouTube how 3D animation was made and it was very fascinating for me.
But if I ever would create such things too, I knew I should learn
normal drawing first. (By now I will stay with 2D art. I like it better.)
And the day came on which I actually started. It was
on the 31 of December 2014, New Year’s Eve. It was a good resolution which
people do at that day. So I went through a mass amount of video tutorials of
how to draw. After that I learned how to program in flash. And
yet after that I reflect about how I actually want my game to be. I chose a
simulation / management type of game. Not only is it fun to play for me, I also
thought it should be fairly easy to code. I don’t regret this decision.
I
needed about half a year to get it ready to show. But right before I wanted to
publish it, I felt the strong responsibility to code it again, because of
various reasons. But I also wanted to put it out. So I did both. Only very few
people played the very first version of the game. I hadn’t spread it around the
Internet on purpose. I wanted to have a real reliable game first.
Two months passed and some of you finally could enjoy
version 1.1, which I uploaded first to the Legend of Krystal forums.
I want to get better in everything I do. I’m glad I
can work on something that is so much fun to work with, that I learned drawing
and programing from the very bottom. I knew what needs to be done to get a game
to work, so I just did it.
That’s the moral of the story. If you’d like to do a
task you are uncertain of: Just get started!
